Launch of the Survey Report

We are proud to share the results of the first major research step in our project “Deaf Culture, Heritage and Diversity”. The European survey brought together insights from four countries: Slovakia, the Netherlands, Italy, and Austria. In total, 172 respondents — Deaf youths, Deaf adults, and Deaf youth workers — contributed their experiences and perspectives.

The survey explored access to Deaf Studies education, preferred learning methods, and the most important themes for a future curriculum. The findings are clear: there is a strong demand for more education on Deaf identity, culture, history, sign language, and mental health. Respondents also highlighted the need for more visual and interactive learning methods, and pointed out significant gaps in access to Deaf Studies in schools.

These results will directly shape our workshops, curriculum, and training activities. By basing the project on community voices, we ensure that the materials are relevant, inclusive, and meaningful.

The full European report as well as the national reports are now available for download. Summaries of all reports have also been translated into national sign languages.

Stay tuned as we turn these findings into the first concrete training materials!
